“There is a time for everything,” the Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 3; “a time to be silent and a time to speak.” Sadly, Christians and churches have too often chosen to remain silent in matters of racial injustice and systemic racism, and tragically, the Gospel that is meant to bring healing and reconciliation has been replaced with a ‘silent gospel’ that has only contributed to the racial divide. As a church committed to engaging in Gospel-centered racial reconciliation, we not only repent of our silence, we refuse to be silent. Now is the time to speak up for and with those who have been unable to speak and stand up for themselves due to the grim history of racism in our country. Now is the time to speak loud the truth of the good news of the Gospel, to cry out against oppression, and instead for the justice of God and His righteousness on this earth, and to do so with the unconditional, grace-filled love of God.
There is a time…to speak. And we choose to speak!
