about

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. _2 Timothy 1:7

Chris lives in Greensboro, NC, with his wife, Molly, and their four children.  As a pastor, Chris is a teacher/preacher, writer, leader, and ambassador in the community whose heart is to mobilize and equip the local church to be the bridge-builder, barrier-breaker and change-agent it is meant to be, while being a people who are known by their love for one another. Chris presently serves as Pastor of Local Missions with Westover Church.

He is a graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (MACM), has studied at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Hood Theological Seminary, and is presently pursuing his D.Min. from Wheaton College (Ill.).  Chris and Molly are both proud alumni of Appalachian State University (Chris – B.S. Communications, ’99). Go Mountaineers!

Chris has 20+ experience in vocational ministry.  Prior to life and ministry in Greensboro, Chris served as Lead Pastor of Life Church in Salisbury, NC.  Chris also spent several years on staff with Samaritan’s Purse International Relief, serving as the Carolinas Regional Manager.  The Shelton’s have called many places in North Carolina ‘home’ over the years, including Boone, Wilson and Charlotte, where Chris has served on staff with churches in those communities.

The Shelton’s love ’neighboring,’ the Tar Heels and almost all things North Carolina, taking frequent trips to the mountains, enjoying good food, music and the outdoors, and most sports!

Wherever they call home, the Shelton’s are active in their community, building relationships and partnerships to advance to Gospel of Christ, while contributing to the strengthening of the existence of an active, missional, multiethnic, multigenerational, socioeconomically diverse, irresistible Church – for the glory of the name of Jesus and for the good of the community to which it has been called.

  1. Hello Chris…we met at the WAYnet event in Wilson. I came up to you at the end of the service and spoke to you….Well I wanted to say thank you for coming to Wilson, especially on your birthday, and that what you said that night has really stayed with me. As a matter of fact we are finishing up with a Sex and Dating program in our Youth Group right now…It is really awesome to me how God is just working with a lot of young people in that area right now. Well, I am not going to keep you any longer I just wanted to say thank you and I really hope that God Blesses you and your family in a mighty way

  2. Hey! I was challenged by your newest entry on my words. What power they have and everytime I open my mouth, does grace and love pour forth? Absolutely not, but you remind me that God desires that from me.

I have some praying to do about this matter and thank you for the reminder.

Hey buddy! I hope you and the family are doing well. I kind of lost track of you when I started working in Ga. I have tried Facebook but did not find you. I was hoping to reconnect. We went to boot camp at the Y for a while. Hope all is well.
