Statement: A Denouncement of Racism
In light of the events in Charlottesville, VA on August 12, 2017 that have since sparked various responses, additional protests and acts of violence across our country, we as Life Church believe it is imperative that the local church continue to be a voice and
presence of truth, love, justice and reconciliation in our broken world.
With this in mind, we bring two Biblical texts to the forefront of this issue. Genesis 1:27makes clear, God has created all men and women in His image. Revelation 7:1-17 clearly states that one day men and women from every nation, every tribe, every people, every
language are going to gather around God’s throne and give Him worship.
Therefore, it must be concluded that God, as affirmed by His word, definitively denounces every form of racism, including any form of white supremacy, as antithetical to His word, His design, His character, and are therefore incompatible with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Furthermore, we, as the church of Jesus Christ, definitively denounce and repudiate white supremacy and any form of racial ethnic hatred as evil and a scheme of the Devil intended to bring suffering and division to our society.
We further denounce any form of racism in our own hearts along those lines.
May God give us grace in our country, and as the church in our country, to bring these texts to bear on how we think about and respond to racism, as well as how we continue our work as ambassadors of reconciliation among all people.
