In response to the recent message, A Beautiful Mess: Jesus & Politics, we wanted to highlight a resource we’ve passed along in recent weeks as a way to help us participate in the process of voting in a responsible, informative way.

Dual Citizens
As dual-citizens of heaven and earth, it is important for us to remain centered on the Sovereignty of God while we work to advance the Gospel and bring heaven to earth in our actions.
Let’s be good citizens of both. Here’s how…
- Pray fervently for our nation in the coming days;
- Participate in the process of election in an informed manner, led by the Spirit of God and how He convicts us to choose;
- Keep working for peace, justice, and rights of others, regardless of the political outcomes;
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute…defend the rights of the poor and needy. Proverbs 31:8-9 NIV
- Remember that what is true today will also be true on Wednesday:
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.Romans 13:1 NIV
God is Sovereign
He is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Heb.13:8) And just as His is on His throne today, He will still be on His throne come Wednesday.
In the meantime, let’s be the ambassadors of hope and reconciliation we’ve been called to be, (2 Cor.5:18-20) doing everything we can to participate in positively shaping the world around us while trusting our Father with the outcomes.
I leave you with a quote I shared yesterday from Dr. Jim Denison that serves as a challenge for us as followers of Jesus in the midst of the political drama as it plays out:
Don’t let politics divide you from your fellow believers. What unites us is far more important than what separates us. We are Christians before we are Americans, Republicans, Democrats, or independents. The world will know we follow Jesus not by how we vote but by how we love.
O, Father, indeed we pray for Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven!
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people- 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus…1 Timothy 2:1-5 NIV
