Implications of Spring & Resurrection

Ahhh…the arrival of Spring!  More daylight (don’t forget to move your clocks forward this Saturday!), warmer temperatures, March Madness, baseball, and all those ongoing bouts with allergies that seem to accompany the budding flowers and trees!  Spring is by far my favorite time of the year – regardless of the fact that I’m sick way more often – but not primarily due to the factors above, which I certainly love. There is incredible symbolism of the Gospel constantly going on around us in nature…

  • Things dormant are coming to life
  • The cold begins to give way to warmth
  • The dark gradually recedes as the light re-establishes its dominance of the day
  • The old is being renewed

Of course, not every part of the world gets to experience these things at this time of the year as we do.  However, the celebration of Easter and the Resurrection of Jesus and the emergence of Spring beautifully coincide for us, which I believe only bears further evidence for us of the bigger story going on in Creation.  Here’s how Paul puts it in his letter to the Romans:

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. Romans 1:20 NIV

Out of His immeasurable goodness, God is constantly at work to remind us of His Presence and to point us to His Story of Redemption that continues to unfold – a Redemption that was made secure through the death of the One-and-Only Son on the Cross and then confirmed through His Resurrection.

As we move toward Easter, may each of our hearts experience this renewal of hope which is found in the life we have through the death of Jesus, and the eager anticipation we have been given because of His Resurrection!
